Here is yesterday’s harvest of silverbeet, chives and peppermint all of which I chopped up and put into a flat round piece of homemade bread (like a tortilla) with feta cheese. I folded the circle in half and sealed it like a turnover. Frank grilled it on the barbecue. Yummmmmm!
Today I did some basic garden maintenance. Lots of weeding. I also planted a few new things (though it’s the last quarter and NOTHING should be planted in this lunar phase):
1) A row of eggplant in the basil bed where I’ve harvested a couple of heads of lettuce.
2) A tiny row of coriander where I’ve removed some basil (yep, still trying to grow coriander from seed).
3) A row of peas interspersed in the first planted row because they aren’t too thick. The plan (hope) is that these will be blooming when the others are dying off.
4) A row of spring onions in front of these same peas.
Update 4 May 2011: The spring onions sprouted and died. The interspersed peas, ditto. Coriander was a no-show (bad batch of seeds) and the eggplant sprouted and then sat alternately wilting and then barely rising during the heat wave. None of these plants like the heat and I was daft for planting them this time of year. I hope I’ve learned my lesson. These plants prefer cool (shade cloth and mulch help).
