Leafcutter Bee

Leafcutter bee on sunflowerThis fantastic native leafcutter bee LOVES my sunflowers. Check out his back left leg, it’s loaded with pollen. As is his entire underside.

He’s one of the local solitary bees. Frank’s busy building a rather impressive bee house that will cater for all kinds of them. Here’s the beginnings with one log home already installed. Frank’s going to stack a few more chunks of wood with holes drilled in them in his homemade hut plus some hollow twigs and top it off with some mud bricks. Who knew bees were so discriminating?
