Frank planted 3 more blueberry bushes today. These were Nellie Kelley variety. So now we have 5 blueberry bushes ringing this little shady garden bed.
The description of the plant says a healthy bush can produce 3-4 kilos of berries a year (spring – summer). I somehow doubt we’ll harvest 20 kilos of berries next year. But even 1/2 kilo would be pretty fantastic.
On the right are 2 of the different blueberry bushes close up: Legacy and Nelly Kelly. The Legacy is larger, more lime green of leaf and squatter looking. The Nellie Kelly is a blue-green, more upright and these bushes already have flowers.
These 2 photos were taken in late afternoon. The dappled lighting is pretty obvious, at least on the leftmost plants. The other 3 probably get a lot less sun. I expect this is a perfect environment in the Sydney climate.
