Home Cookin’

I’m HOME! It’s been a long stint away from bandicoots, possums and caterpillars but they all seem to have done very well in my absence. Some of my veggies did okay too!

First pick went to one of the carrots that made it into the laksa we had in our welcome home dinner – forgot to pick some lemon grass which is doing really well – I blame jet lag for that oversight.

Yesterday we dug a bit further afield for our meal. Below is one of the potato patches (the horseradish on the left looks great, the strawberries on the right look amazing – but produce nothing, the potatoes in the middle are hidden underground).

A pitchfork helped us gather in part of the crop and the end result was some pretty tasty mashed potatoes for dinner (and one raw one for a bit of quality control – they passed with flying colours). Leftovers will become gnocchi tonight.

A batch of Roma tomatoes off the vine with one red onion pulled from the earth were seasoned with oregano off the plant to create a super salad. The sausage that sizzled on the barbie didn’t come out of the garden but the rest of the meal did. It’s good to be home!

  1. Welcome back! So nice that you had produce to come back to!

  2. Thanks. I’m really enjoying being home and getting my hands dirty again. I was given a beautiful welcome by the patch of cosmos still thriving in my back yard from that packet of seeds you sent me. That was a gift that keeps on giving (I’ll definitely be collecting seeds from them). Thank you.
