Shared Space

16 months ago Frank made a birdbath in the middle of our backyard. The birds love it and regularly come for a drink or a bath.

A local currawong came by for a quick dip one day recently when the chickens were out free-ranging. Bronwyn wasn’t fazed by this visitor at all. And that’s a substantial development because for the first couple of weeks, every time our chooks heard or, heaven forbid, saw a bird, they ran into their coop as if the sky was falling.

Progress, but not total bravery yet. When the currawong took off, Bronwyn’s head shot up and a nanosecond after this photo was taken, she was racing full speed towards her run. She did recover her dignity before actually making it across the threshold though and was soon nibbling on a new-found delight elsewhere in the garden.

I like the bird bath, very neat πŸ™‚

    • Thanks. We like to watch the birds take turns bathing. On summer afternoons there can be a queue! I have to give my husband full credit. He saw the old lamp shade on the side of the road at one of our council clean-ups and envisioned its higher purpose πŸ™‚ Then, of course, he did the hard work to turn it into that feature.
