First Mandarins

Last year we ate our first mandarin in late May. This year the summer was wet and cold but that didn’t cause much of a delay. Unfortunately it looks like we don’t have nearly as much fruit on the tree as last year. I’m not sure how much the weather has to do with that and how much it’s just a cyclical thing with citrus. Anyway, the mandarins are starting to ripen.

We harvested our first 3 yesterday. They are super juicy and full of flavour but not very sweet. The early harvest never is.

The possums have found their own to harvest too. Thus begins the annual battle of the mandarins!
