Cruddy Yellow Sweet Corn Disease?

I have no idea what’s befallen my sweet corn but it seems to attack the green tips and they freeze shut. If you pry them open by hand, new shoots come up through the yellow stuff. The new shoots are a bit rumpled, but look like they’re going to survive.

I’ve inspected the affected areas and see no sign of insects (though they could be too tiny to see). The infection is on maybe 25% of the crop. I don’t like it!

What is it? What can I do about it? Will I get a crop anyway?
