This blog has evolved as my garden has morphed into more than just a hobby – my garden has become a lifestyle. I started out using this site to help me figure out how to get the most out of my suburban back yard; I kept track of my progress so each year I could get better harvests from my little plot.
As time went on I added chickens and bees to my backyard plus a lot more space for vegetables. Then, in one fell swoop, I swapped that backyard for a farm and later moved to our own property in Hobart. I continue to bring my suburban attitudes to the farm, but the scale of things is mildly intimidating. And it’s a blast.
What I put in this blog is a reflection of my outlook on life. I like to minimise where it makes sense, make as small of an impact on the planet as I can, create as much as possible from the most basic and pure sources and enjoy the simple things. My garden-cum-farm not only stems directly from this outlook, it also feeds back into it.
I have a site focusing on my writing if that’s what you’re looking for. You can find it at www.laurarittenhouse.com.
