- I live on the banks of the Derwent River in Hobart Tasmania. I've have a couple acres of bush, paddock, gardens and plenty of weeds to keep me busy. I'm learning as I go about growing what I can, caring for the living things around me and enjoying it all while I'm at it.

Foraging for Dinner
Out on the farm we are half-camping with minimal supplies to keep us going. There’s a nice flat on the property but we don’t want to move too much in because we’ll just have to move it out when the … Continue reading
Stuffed Eggplant
I’m so happy that my few surviving eggplant plants (is that the right phrase to use?) actually are producing eggplants. I know most people just expect to sow eggplant seeds, wait a bit and then harvest eggplants. That’s not been … Continue reading
Yet Another Reason I Love My Garden
A friend phoned a couple of days ago and asked Hubby and me over for a dip in their pool and a relaxing evening at their place. With little effort we decided they’d BBQ some chicken and make the satay sauce … Continue reading
Garden Vegetables & Cous Cous Salad with Ham
Jamie Oliver has a series on TV right now where he prepares 2 – 15 minute meals in a half-hour segment (I feel honour-bound to clarify that this does NOT include the time to harvest or buy the food and clean up afterwards … Continue reading
Waste not Want not
Last night I turned the leftover mashed potatoes (from potatoes from my garden) into gnocchi. Topped with pesto made from basil, parsley and oregano out of the garden, it was delicious. My gnocchi … Continue reading
Home Cookin’
I’m HOME! It’s been a long stint away from bandicoots, possums and caterpillars but they all seem to have done very well in my absence. Some of my veggies did okay too! First pick went to one of the carrots that … Continue reading
Green Harvest
On Saturday I harvested greens from my garden to go into a quiche. The plan was to do a “before” and “after” photo showing the healthy greens and then the sumptuous quiche they became as it was pulled fresh from … Continue reading

Dinner harvest
This afternoon’s harvest looks pretty good. Some saved before the critters could eat it (both of these cukes have bite marks and the tomatoes are clearly proving to be a crowd pleaser because all they need is a blush of … Continue reading
Harvest
Today’s harvest. 2 types of lettuce (from seedlings), basil (from seed), parsley (self propagated for several years), oregano (from seedling several years old and neglected). It all got turned into a salad tossed with tomatoes (from the store as my … Continue reading

Herbs
Here are some of my herbs. The parsley is going wild, self seeding with no end in site. The oregano recovered well after some pretty ruthless weeding, and the thyme is recovering from the tenants neglect. the new chives are … Continue reading
