- I live on the banks of the Derwent River in Hobart Tasmania. I've have a couple acres of bush, paddock, gardens and plenty of weeds to keep me busy. I'm learning as I go about growing what I can, caring for the living things around me and enjoying it all while I'm at it.

Sunflower Attack
Honestly, I hold out very little hope for my sunflower crop. Something, possum or bandicoot, is relentless in its attack. My chicken wire fence is perhaps an inconvenience, but not a deterrent. A couple of days after sowing the seeds … Continue reading

No Time to Waste
A couple of days ago I wrote a post about the possums stripping bark from my citrus trees. I defended against their assault by placing plastic pots around some of the main branches of the kumquat tree, the tastiest of … Continue reading
I Do NOT Hate Possums
I don’t mind sharing my garden with possums. That is no lie. Maybe it’s not exactly the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, but honestly, Your Honour, if possums want to pick some citrus fruit or nibble … Continue reading

Citrus Thieves
The mandarins finished a couple of weeks ago. It was a good crop, not a great crop. Good enough to keep the local possums in feed every night, not great enough for me to harvest 6 a day like last … Continue reading
Possum & Parrot Nest Boxes
A year ago (seriously, 16 April 2011) Frank and I attended a free workshop put on by our local council where we made 2 nest boxes – one for a sugar glider (a small gliding possum) and one for a … Continue reading
Plan C – Possum Pot
My strategy for dealing with possums in my garden has evolved. Plan A – live and let live. Grow enough of everything to provide for the local fauna with plenty left over for us. If there wasn’t enough left over, … Continue reading
